Hartley Sawyer, la star di Flash, licenziato a causa di tweet razzisti e misogini

Hartley Sawyer è stato licenziato da “The Flash” della CW per una raccolta di tweet razzisti e misogini che ha postato prima di unirsi allo show.

La notizia è stata confermata da CW e dai produttori dello show Warner Bros Television e Berlanti Productions, che hanno fornito a Variety la seguente dichiarazione:

“Hartley Sawyer non tornerà per la settima stagione di Flash. Per quanto riguarda i post di Mr. Sawyer sui social media, non tolleriamo commenti dispregiativi che riguardano qualsiasi razza, etnia, origine, genere o orientamento sessuale. Tali osservazioni sono antitetiche ai nostri valori e politiche, che si sforzano e si evolvono per promuovere un ambiente sicuro, inclusivo e produttivo per la nostra forza lavoro.”

I tweet in questione risalgono principalmente al 2012 e al 2014, incluso questo: “L’unica cosa che mi impedisce di fare tweet leggermente razzisti è la consapevolezza che Al Sharpton non smetterà mai di lamentarsi di me.”

In un altro tweet del 2012, Sawyer ha scritto che “da ragazzo, una delle mie attività preferite era rapire donne senzatetto e tagliargli il seno.”

Hartley ha rilasciato una scusa tramite il suo Instagram la scorsa settimana, dicendo “sono incredibilmente dispiaciuto, mi vergogno e sono deluso da me stesso per la mia ignoranza di allora.”

My words, irrelevant of being meant with an intent of humor, were hurtful, and unacceptable. I am ashamed I was capable of these really horrible attempts to get attention at that time. I regret them deeply. This was not acceptable behavior. These were words I threw out at the time with no thought or recognition of the harm my words could do, and now have done today. I am incredibly sorry, ashamed and disappointed in myself for my ignorance back then. I want to be very clear: this is not reflective of what I think or who I am now. Years ago, thanks to friends and experiences who helped me to open my eyes, I began my journey into becoming a more responsible adult – in terms of what I say, what I do, and beyond. I’ve largely kept that journey private, and this is another way that I have let so many down. I still have more work to do. But how I define myself now does not take away the impact of my words, or my responsibility for them. I am very sorry.

Sawyer si unì a “The Flash” nella quarta stagione come Ralph Dibney, ed è stato un personaggio regolare delle ultime due stagioni. La sesta stagione è andata in onda poco più di un mese fa.

Il produttore esecutivo della serie, Eric Wallace, ha rilasciato una sua dichiarazione sul licenziamento di Sawyer, dicendo che i suoi post sono “indicativi del più grande problema nel nostro paese.”
